Greg Parent talks Tools of the Trade of a Mediator/Arbitrator, Earning Trust and Respect, UNC Hoops, Photography and March Madness Brackets
Greg Parent joins us this week on Sports ‘N Torts. Greg is a Mediator and Arbitrator with Miles ADR. Greg’s professional career has included working as a claims adjuster, defense attorney and plaintiff’s attorney. This unique background has armed him to become one of the most sought out mediators in Georgia – and if you don’t believe me check his calendar and try to find an open date. Greg takes us behind the curtain on how he prepares for mediation, how he connects with the parties/lawyers and the tools he uses to bring the parties to a successful resolution. Greg leaves no stone unturned during a mediation – including even being deliberately thoughtful on how/when he eats lunch. If you are a lawyer who mediates cases you will want to listen to Greg’s thoughts on the process. Greg also explains the Arbitration process, his role as an Arbitrator and how that has become a great alternative to jury trials where he is making decisions on the outcome of disputes.
Greg is also a huge sports fan – most notably UNC basketball. We talk about his favorite Tar Heel teams, players and memories. We talk about his Jordan’s shoe collection and his courtside seats for the Atlanta Hawks. Of course I had to ask Greg about his selfie game at these events which led to a great conversation on his photography hobby and how he photographs his children’s sporting events.
Its March Madness week so go through our brackets and give our thoughts on teams likely to make a run, teams on upset alert and intriguing story lines. Sadly (and surprisingly), UNC did not make the tournament this year but Greg was a good sport nonetheless. Multiple titles in the last decade will do that for a fan, I suppose. Enjoy the tournament everyone!
