Overview:
We represented a woman who was shot in the leg while visiting an apartment complex with a documented history of violent crime. As a result of the shooting, she suffered various orthopedic injuries and was unable to return to work.

Challenges:
The apartment complex denied responsibility for the criminal act -instead blaming it on the criminal shooter. We needed to prove the apartment complex had its own liability by showing it had prior notice of dangerous conditions on the property and failed to implement appropriate safety measures.

Our Work:
We built a compelling negligent security case by taking depositions of corporate representatives, employees, and tenants, all of whom confirmed that management was aware of ongoing criminal activity. We hired a security expert specializing in apartment complexes to evaluate the property’s failures, and a life care planner to outline our client’s long-term medical and financial needs. The strength of the case led to a settlement shortly before trial.

Result:
We secured a $7,905,000 settlement, helping our client obtain justice and the financial resources needed for long-term care and stability.
